The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is the only state agency involved in the probe over the multi-billion scandal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency.
A source had told Kurunzi that contrary to widespread media reports in the press on confusion on who is investigating the matter, a source has confirmed that Integrity House sleuths have been on the brief to probe the issue of how billions of money meant for COVID-19 may have been lost.
A source at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission confirmed the agency was handling the probe and was not aware if any other state institution was on the brief.
“We are involved in this matter and any other narrative is false, we have made tremendous progress on this investigation,” a EACC source told Kurunzi.
“We are the ones investigating this issue and we are not aware of any other agency being involved in this matter.”
Following an exposé by NTV and their sister newspaper – Daily Nation, on how COVID-19 billions have been lost through fraudulent procurement, the KEMSA board suspended the CEO and a senior manager as other institutions including parliament started probing the matter.
Media reports had suggested there was no clarity on which state agency – between EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – was handling the issue and with no official position being announced left much speculation.
This is how a section of netizens took on the DCI and EACC over the matter following the conflicting reports on who between the two state agencies is handling the probe.

EACC has been investigating KEMSA for the last 6months. It was during this period that KEMSA was looted and money diverted. How is it possible that during a period that @EACCKenya was at KEMSA all the looting happened? Were they bribed to look the other way? #EACCKemsaExposed— Lord Abraham Mutai (@ItsMutai) August 23, 2020
Seems KEMSA employees paid to answer queries on their corrupt deals as opposed to serving kenya. DCI and EACC should publish the list of parallel investigations into them.
