Govt earmarks 2,000 acres of land to be acquired for security camp

Plans to start purchasing 2.185 acres of property in Samburu County in order to establish a security installation have been made public by the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
The National Lands Commission affirmed in a Gazette notice of 25 March that the Losesia Community will be the seller of the subject land.
The notification stated, in part, “IN PURSUANCE of the Land Act, 2012, Part VIII, the National Land Commission on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration gives notice that the National Government intends to acquire the following parcel of land for the development of its Security Infrastructure and training facility in Samburu County.”
The NLC further said that anyone who wanted to see the land acquisition plans might do so at the commission’s headquarters during business hours.
One section of the notification stated, “Plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the National Land Commission office, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi.”
In order to make viewing easier for interested parties, the National Lands Commission County Offices in Samburu County would also be opened.
Following the government’s announcement that it will be constructing a military training complex in Pura, Samburu County, the acquisition was gazetted.
The government established the outpost with the intention of controlling the increasing level of instability in the area, according to a statement released on 29 October, 2023.
President William Ruto ordered the Kenya Defense Forces to be sent to West Pokot on Monday, 8 April, in an effort to counter the attacks.
The President voiced his worries about the growing level of insecurity in the area following the closure of local schools due to an increase in banditry incidents.
The KDF was given orders by President Ruto to uphold the peace and make sure that the region’s schools open on time.
For identical reasons, Ruto also ordered the relocation of a military camp from Uasin Gishu to Kerio Valley in an earlier statement dated 15 February.
