
Kindiki stated that the detectives will begin the third round of exhumation tomorrow, amid fears that more people are still buried in hidden graves. “All buried bodies will be exhumed and postmortem on them,no matter how long it takes,” said Kindiki.
On Sunday, the CS addressed in Sagana during a church service at Kenya Assemblies of God church in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County. He stated that all exhumed bodies had undergone postmortem examination.
“It’s a sad reality, but we’ll leave no stone unturned until we find out the truth. So far, over 242 people have lost their lives in Shakahola, which is more than the country has suffered in the hands of terrorists in the last five years,” said Kindiki.
Cabinet secretary Kindiki had previously stated before the Ad hoc Committee of the senate, on the Proliferation of Religious Organizations that it is regrettable that such cruelty could have been done in the name of religion.
Thirty Four persons have been arrested so far in connection with the cult deaths and are in police custody as they await investigations to be concluded. The Homicide police had halted the exhumation process to allow for a postmortem examinations to be concluded.
In the second phase, 129 bodies were exhumed. Last Monday, Johansen Oduor, chief government pathologist, stated that they performed postmortems on last 16 bodies, finishing the second phase of the autopsy and having so far analyzed all 243 bodies.
According to Oduor, their investigations revealed that the majority of the victims were either forcefully starved, beaten with a blunt object, or strangled to death. Many parts of the postmortem have been hampered by the degree of decomposition on the exhumed bodies.
Homicide Director Martin Nyuguto, regrettably said some of the families who attended the postmortem will have to wait two months for the DNA findings.
