
“I have informed the President that Kenya is extending an offer of 300 positions in our higher learning institutions to Djiboutian students, at the same fees applicable to Kenyan students,” he stated at a joint press conference with his host, Ismail Guelleh.
Ruto also consented to the mutual acceptance of credentials by higher education institutions in both countries. “We have also agreed to expedite the negotiation of a framework that allows for the reciprocal recognition of certificates issued by our respective institutions of higher learning.”
He also stated that Kenya will provide the necessary assistance to enable Djibouti integrate English into its curriculum.
Ruto stated that the presence of French-speaking trainees from Djibouti will help Kenya Technical and Vocational Education Training institutions improve the language abilities of Kenyan graduates seeking work overseas.
“We also discussed support for English language training and its integration into Djibouti’s curricula.” Kenya is fully prepared to provide support and teachers to aid in this endeavor,” he added.
“However, to improve the language proficiency of Kenyan graduates seeking employment abroad, Kenyan Technical and Vocational Education Training institutions, as well as medical training colleges, will benefit from the inclusion of French language trainees from Djibouti.”
IGAD Summit
President Ruto was in Djibouti for the 14th Ordinary Assembly of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
According to a statement made on Saturday by the State House Press Office, Ruto will endeavor to expand and deepen existing connections between Kenya and Djibouti. The IGAD summit, which is set to take place on Monday, will be the first meeting of Heads of State since 2019.
The Assembly will discuss on issues relevant to regional peace, security, and development, with a major focus on the situation in Sudan.
In addition to IGAD member nations, the African Union, diplomatic community members, and representatives from the United Nations and the European Union will attend.
“The Assembly will provide an opportunity for IGAD member states to review progress made in addressing these issues and to discuss new strategies for achieving sustainable development in the region,” IGAD said.
The discussions will also highlight improving collaboration among member states, advancing regional integration, and fostering peace, stability, economic growth, and social development.
The summit is expected to conclude with a joint communiqué detailing the conclusions of the discussions and charting the path forward for the region.
