President Ruto stated that the county has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have a passion for wildlife and the ability to care for the wildlife that is both a county and national asset during his speech during the Maasai Culture Week in Sekenani, Maasai Mara.

“The management of Amboseli National Park will be under the county government of Kajiado and the Ministry of Tourism will work towards that course.”
The process will be worked out between the Ministry of Tourism and the county administration of Kajiado, President Ruto continued.
In order to increase tourism and the regional economy, the county government had pledged to add more acres of property, the head of state said.
“I want to say that I am satisfied with that because since the history of the Maasai culture they have assisted our country in the conservation of our nation areas and Wildlife whether in Samburu or Narok or Kajiado,” he added.
This announcement comes after Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku pledged to try to bring the park back under county control on December 12, 2022, during Jamhuri Day festivities in Kajiado.
Lenku argued that because the Maasai own the ecology in Amboseli, their livestock ought to be able to graze alongside wild animals.
“With the support of other elected leaders, I am starting the process of returning the park to the county government,’’ said Lenku.
The Kenya Wildlife Services, with cooperation from the Big Life Foundation, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and other international wildlife organizations, manages Amboseli National Park, which is situated in the southern region of Kajiado County.
