Following revelations that one of its supervisors forced female staff members to strip off in order to discover which one of them was on her period, the management of Brown’s Food Company suspended three senior employees.
The strange episode was caused by the discovery of a used sanitary towel inside the incorrect trash can on the property of the company’s cheese plant.
Brown’s top management said in a statement on Thursday that, despite the company’s reputation as being pro-women, they are outraged and dismayed to find that such an occurrence happened right in front of them.
The statement states in part, “The individuals involved were suspended as soon as the matter was brought to our attention. We would like to apologize to the general public as well as the women involved,” the statement continued.
While describing the occurrence as isolated, Brown’s management indicated that they have now started internal investigations into the situation and noted that they have hired a third-party HR firm to carry out the investigation.
“Brown’s has formal HR policies and systems in place, and this incident does not reflect the procedures of the Company as a whole,” the business stated.
“The provider is working with a third-party HR provider to give every employee a chance to talk about the situation with a stranger. We are also consulting with specialists in women’s health and sensitization to make sure our trainings and rules prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, the statement continued.
The company’s quality assurance manager, human resource manager, and HR assistant were all detained on Thursday as a result of the incident’s disclosure.
On Friday, they are expected to be arraigned in court.
