Gachagua alleged in a live televised interview on Inooro that his elder brother was poisoned, which resulted in his health deterioration and death. The former governor died on 24 February 2017 as a result of pancreatic cancer, according to his family.
Nderitu Gachagua, the Mathira Constituency MP before becoming governor, died at the age of 64 while receiving treatment at a London hospital. In a fresh twist, the DP claimed that deep-pocketed coffee cartels were involved in his late brother’s death.
“Our family believes and knows that our brother was poisoned by the cartels; he was very healthy before declaring war on the cartels, but his health deteriorated,” he said on Inooro TV.
Gachagua created a picture of highly connected and complicated coffee cartels controlling State authorities in order to deprive coffee growers of their hard-earned money.
“When my brother declared war on the cartels, they banded together and went abroad to block Kenyan coffee, inciting locals to turn against him.” “We are prepared for that and have put in place certain measures that I will not disclose,” he said.
With this in mind, Gachagua stated that he was appointed to deal with the cartels since he and President William Ruto have no interests in the industry and because he is “incorruptible.”
“These people are ruthless. Because of the cartels’ formidable and nefarious schemes, Cabinet Secretaries and other government agencies are unable to deal with them,” he stated.
“When we appointed Mithika Linturi to the Agriculture docket, they tried to bribe him with Ksh30 million to get into their trap,” he said, “but Linturi informed me and the Head of State, and this is how I was given the responsibility.”
The DP also revealed that he had asked the police chief to beef up protection for Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire following her audacious decision to name some of the cartels.
“She named the cartels that have impoverished farmers, and as a result, we have increased her security even at her homes,” he claimed. “This war can only be won by the President and I because we have enough security and cannot be corrupted.”
Gachagua had previously informed Meru vernacular stations that he, too, had been approached by cartels with a Ksh7 billion deal, but had declined.
“I’m done having children, they’re educated and in formal jobs, and my wife is a pastor with no huge expenses,” he remarked. “Even if they bribe the electorate and deny me votes in 2027, as long as farmers have money in their pockets, I’ll be satisfied and go home peacefully.”
Gachagua stated that Kenya Kwanza government will prevail and win the battle, despite the fact that it will not be easy.
