A section of Members of the Nairobi County Assembly allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have linked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to Monday’s Azimio la Umoja rally in Kamukunji.
The Assembly’s Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu who led a media briefing convened by the caucus on Tuesday accused the Governor of facilitating the meeting by offering the venue and resources.
Kiragu, also the Waithaka Ward representative, said the Governor’s silence regarding the rally which was hosted in his county is questionable.
He said the meeting was in bad taste as it disrupted business in the city, also bringing unnecessary commotion at a time when students were resuming school for term one.
“We are aware that the Governor donated a venue at Charter Hall on Sunday afternoon where planning, strategizing and mobilization of that meeting was taking place,” he claimed.
“We are also aware that he financed the meeting and money was collected at his private office at Riverside,” Kiragu added.
Bias against UDA party
The Minority Leader also challenged the Governor to declare his stand saying despite being elected on a UDA ticket, he has resorted to sidelining members aligned to the party instead favoring the rival Azimio wing.
“I want to challenge the Governor not to put on a yellow t-shirt during the day and a blue one at night. He needs to come out and declare his stand,” he added.
Kenya Kwanza MCAs who are the minority in the Assembly have been at logger heads with Governor Sakaja and have since taken the opposition role after they accused him of sidelining them.
The rift with Sakaja started after he appointed Azimio la Umoja allies into key county positions.
The Governor in response said he had received a nod from President William Ruto, his party leader, before he made the decision.
