
Nairobi, Kenya, Jan 4 – Starehe-based detectives have gunned down a suspected thug believed to be the head of a gang trying to establish its territory in Nairobi’s Mathare area and its environs.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Wednesday that Charles Gitau Mwangi alias Baroda, 22, who has been on the detectives’ radar for the past few weeks was fatally wounded after he allegedly defied orders to surrender and attacked one of the officers.
The agency stated that the detectives went after the suspect and two of his accomplices following distress calls from the members of the public.
“The thugs were escaping from a scene of the crime at Mlango Kubwa, where they had attacked a woman headed to work at around 8 am and took away her mobile phone and other valuables leaving her wailing in anguish,” the DCI stated.
The agency says the suspect was shot dead after he allegedly defied orders to surrender and turned on the officers with a homemade firearm capable of firing and a dagger.
The deceased’s accomplices according to the DCI escaped with bullet wounds
Detectives managed to recover a firearm capable of firing, 2 rounds of 9mm calibre, a knife, and the stolen mobile phone from the fallen suspect.
