In order to investigate the validity of the Finance Bill, 2023, which was approved by Parliament this week, they claimed to be seeking other options.
Speaking at an education day on Friday in Rarieda sub-county, the leaders said that they have already filed a lawsuit to halt the Bill, which they characterized as punitive.
Otiende Amollo, a Rarieda MP, advised the Kenya Kwanza government to postpone their festivities and stated that they would also consult the Kenyan populace before taking any more action.
Amollo claimed that despite their efforts to oppose the Bill at every level, the Kenya Kwanza MPs utilized their numbers to pass it against the interests of Kenyans. Amollo was joined by Siaya Governor James Orengo, MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), John Mbadi (nominated), and Samuel Atandi (Alego-Usonga) at the press conference.
Senators Oburu Oginga (Siaya) and Enock Wambua, who represents Kitui, were also present.
“Parliament exercises delegated authority, and we’re warning our friends on the other side that it is not the end of the road,” said Amollo.
According to the politician, they won’t pick up the bipartisan discussions again unless Kenyans want it. . “We will only resume the talks when the Kenya Kwanza colleagues say that they are ready to do so,” said Amollo.
The CS for Interior Kithure Kindiki’s threats over the planned anti-government demonstrations by the Azimio alliance will not intimidate them, he added.
The ODM MPs, who they said deserted them during the passage of the contentious Bill, were the target of another jab from the leaders. The MPs embarrassed the coalition by deciding to support the opponents, according to ODM Chairman Mbadi.
The lawmaker criticized the renegade MPs as being interested in their personal self-interest and claimed that Nyanza has not experienced any development as long as ODM party leader Raila Odinga is not close to the ruling coalition.
The renegade MPs were pushed by Wambua, who is also the deputy minority leader in the Senate, to quit and seek a new mandate.
