A stalemate draw between AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks marked the conclusion of round 20 fixtures in the FKF Premier League 2024/2025 season. It was weekend that could have decided who breaks away from the rest in the title charge and who could salvage a stay in the league, but the results left the fans a little unhappy.
No separating Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC
Both teams came into this weekend with the hope of securing a win that could see either sit comfortably at the top and raise hopes of winning the title but that wasn’t the case as the two sides battled to a goalless draw at the Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday.
The result left the two- who have been inseparable for the last weeks- tied on 38 points Police boasting of a superior goal difference after scoring 24 and conceding 10.
Both keepers had a busy day in the end-to-end match. If the attacking players could have been clinical infront of the goal, the match could have ended differently.
The Brewers head coach Charles Okere could not hide his frustrations after the draw: “We started the game very strongly in the first half, creating a number of chances, but once again, we struggled in front of goal,” Okere
“The issue remains the same: we lacked composure and weren’t able to finish the opportunities we created. This is an area that we need to focus on if we are to secure victories in such tight, tactical matches.”
Despite the goalless result, Okere found some positives to take from the game. One of the standout aspects was the team’s continued defensive solidity, with the third consecutive clean sheet being a significant achievement.

Gor on the heels of the top two
Reigning and record champions Gor Mahia put a straight message to their fans and the top two ‘don’t rule us out of the title race, not yet’ after a 2-1 victory over Mathare United to take their points tally to 34 with a game in hand. If they win game, they could be a point adrift of Police and Tusker. Alphonce Omija and Enock Morrison completed the comeback after K’Ogalo went behind in the 16th minute courtesy of Ellie Asieche.
Gor head coach, Sinisa Mihic admitted that his side struggled in the first half which saw both teams head to the break level at one goal apiece.
“First of all, I have to congratulate my team because it was difficult, they (the players) wanted to show me something special but in the first half I was not impressed which made me make some changes in the second half,” said the Croat whose charges got him to the perfect start with the 21-time champions.
On his side, Mathare’s head coach John Kamau, attributed the loss to three factors: their own mistakes.
“It was a game of small margins where we were punished for our own mistakes and undoing.
From our side, we tried to play the ball, and our goal was a result of creativity from the wing,” said Kamau after the match.
K’Ogalo’s tendency of starting slowly and then awakening in the later stages of the season to nick the title seems to be happening once again.
While the results are positive to Gor, for the 2008 champions have little to smile about as they are 14th on 21 points three off the drop.
