Record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia rallied late to beat reigning champions Tusker FC 2-1 in a midweek match played at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Wednesday.
The entertaining affair saw both sides miss glorious opportunities but it was K’ogalo who drew first blood through Sidney Ochieng.
The Kenya International beat the returning Patrick Matasi with a beauty in the 32nd minute of the game to set up the tempo.
Both teams would head into the breather with Tusker having seen most of the ball.
The Brewers started the second half with more intent and this bore fruits in the 52nd minute when Shami Mwinyi’s freekick beat Gad Matthews in Gor Mahia’s goal.
Gor Mahia could have extended their lead in the 72nd minute of the game when Jackson Macharia teed up the league’s leading scorer Benson Omalla but a steady Matasi was up to stop the threat.
Omalla finally had his goal in the 84th minute of the game when he slotted home a spot kick to take his tally to 12 for the season.
K’ogalo would hang on the lead despite Tusker’s late onslaught in such of yet another equalizer.
At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, hosts Ulinzi Stars had to work hard to earn a point at home when they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bidco United.
Ten-man Bidco took the lead through ex-Ulinzi player Ezekiel Okare who outpaced Boniventure Michika to slot past a stranded Ricky Slyvaine. Hillary Simiyu then banged home from close range to give Bernard Mwalala’s soldiers the equalizer in what otherwise a dull affair at the Langata Barracks.
