Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) heavyweights Gor Mahia cemented their lead at the top of the league standings with a 2-1 win over Kenya Police at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani in Nairobi.
Dennis Ng’ang’a and Benson Omalla ensured Kogalo opened a four-point gap courtesy of their superb goals.
Elvis Rupia had given the law enforcers a deserved lead, barely 11 minutes into the proceedings with a superb header but Kogalo’s center-back Dennis Ng’ang’a pulled the record champions back into the match after leaping high to connect with John Macharia’s alluring cross.
Omala would go on to secure the victory and much-needed three points for the 19-time champions with his 16th goal of the season with 10 minutes left on the stopwatch.
Courtesy of their win Gor leads the log with 37 points, four above Nzoia Sugar who moved to second after battling to a barren draw with FC Talanta at MISC Kasarani Annex.
Both Nzoia and KCB are level on 33 points, but the millers have a superior goal difference.
In other fixtures held on Saturday at Kasarani Annex, Ulinzi Stars defeated Nairobi City Stars 2-0 while hosts Bandari defeated Bidco United by the same margin at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa. Umaru Kasumba and Abdallah Hassan scored in either half for the dockers.
At Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega Homeboyz edged out Vihiga Bullets 1-0 while Mathare United saw off Wazito by the same margin at Ruaraka Grounds.
