The Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen have formally approached the Law Society of Kenya, seeking clarity over a petition that calls for their removal from the Roll of Advocates.
The two senior officials, through their lawyer Cecil Miller, have requested official copies of the complaint, which they say they learned about through social media.
In a letter to the LSK, Miller said his clients were concerned by reports suggesting a formal complaint had been lodged against them, and that they wish to respond appropriately.
“We have been retained to represent the Deputy President Kithure Abraham Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, with instructions to write to you that it has come to the attention of our clients, through social media reports, that a complaint or complaints have been lodged against them at the LSK,” Miller’s letter states.
He asked the LSK to furnish them with copies of the said complaint “to enable us to take the necessary steps to safeguard our clients’ interests”.
The petition, dated 30 June 2025, was filed by Advocate Kepher Ojijo. It seeks the removal of both officials from the Roll of Advocates, arguing that their conduct while holding public office has violated professional standards expected of lawyers.
Mr Ojijo cites their roles during nationwide protests in June 2024 and June 2025, alleging they failed to uphold the rule of law and constitutional principles amid reports of police excesses.
He also refers to remarks allegedly made by Murkomen on 26 June 2025, claiming they were unbecoming of a legal professional.
The petition urges the LSK to initiate disciplinary proceedings and convene a special general meeting under Section 31(1)(b) of the LSK Act to deliberate on the matter.
Neither Kindiki nor Murkomen has commented publicly on the allegations.
