Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) is scheduled to conduct the much-awaited polls on March 24 at the RFUEA grounds.
This comes after the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) ordered KRU to hold a fresh election within 60 days.
This is after the tribunal committee nullified the election held on September 6, 2022, at RFUEA Grounds.
The tribunal annulled the election stating that KRU failed to meet certain thresholds and that the exercise was marred with irregularities.
In its ruling to nullify the election, the Tribunal said “they were not held in consonance with the electoral principles, the spirit and meaning of the Sports Act and the KRU Constitution.”
KRU affiliates will now elect officials in six positions with the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, and directors slots up for grabs with the team set to serve for a four-year term.
In a notice sent out by acting secretary Ray Olendo, the Annual General Meeting will consider the board report for 2022, receive and consider the adoption of the audited financial reports as well as appoint of auditors.
Olendo added that the affiliates must have paid their annual subscription, insurance, and competition fees.
Those seeking elective posts, according to Olendo’s statement, must have served on the executive committee of an affiliated club, or have served as a coach, referee, administrator, or medical practitioner for a period of four years.
The candidates should possess a certificate of good conduct, clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), good knowledge of both written and oral English and Swahili and or one coaching, refereeing, or club administration laws of the game, and a rugby-ready certificate.
In the same ruling, KRU also ordered that the election should be conducted by an independent panel of 5 members.
The five will include two nominees from the current board; a man and a woman, one member from the Kenya Cup, Championship, and Women’s Rugby as well as the CEO of the Union who will not have voting rights.
In the same breath, KRU has said it will comply with the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) ruling that nullified the elections held in September.
