Kenyan football could soon find itself in a deeper miasma should former Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne take legal action against the country over non-payment.
The Frenchman on Sunday revealed that he is mulling dragging the country to world football governing body FIFA following the failure of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to settle his dues almost a year after his dismissal.
Migne was shown the door in 2019 following a spate of poor shows in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt as well as other subsequent international outings.
However, speaking to Switch TV on Sunday, Migne who is currently handling Equatorial Guinea said he has pensively waited for FKF to act but nothing has been forthcoming and soon he will take the matter to the world governing body.
“No (I havent received any money), they told me it is a process (to receive payments) so soon maybe I will go to Fifa (to lodge a case) if I have no choice. I left some time for FKF to regularise everything and if there is nothing, I will go to FIFA,” he said.
It is not clear how much the former French player is owed although reports indicate that he was earning about Ksh 2 million per month for the 3-year contract he had signed.
The former Democratic Republic of Congo tactician also complained that he had received zilch for leading the team to victory against the Tanzania in the Afcon bonanza in Egypt in June 2019. Each member of the squad was to be paid Ksh 250,000 but nothing has been forthcoming since then.
“We have received nothing. The players and my staff. No money and we wait. I read in the papers about the challenges and we will see.” he said.
Should he live true to his threat then Kenya could find itself even in more crisis considering that the country is staring at the possibility of being locked out of the 2022 World Cup qualifications for failing to compensate former coach Adel Amrouche his Ksh 109 million within the set deadline.
Amrouche successfully sued the Nick Mwendwa-led federation at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) which consequently directed Fifa to follow up. The global soccer body gave Kenya until April 23 2020 to pay up or face sanctions.
The fedration is also yet to pay former coach Bobby Wiliamson Ksh 55 million after the Scott successsfully sued for wrongful dismissal in a Kenyan high court in 2019.
