A family in Khwisero, Kakamega County is seeking justice after a minor was defiled in the hands of the police. It is alleged that a constable officer at Khwisero police station raped a form two girl who was in a police cell at night.
The father of the 16-year-old victim, has claimed that the suspect found his daughter at night and performed that hineous act, and called on the police department to take strict legal action against him.
The mother of the victim also said that she had gone through similar ordeals in the cells of Khwisero when she was arrested during curfew.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, was arrested while having sex with a 23-year-old boy and put in a cell. She indicated that the officer arrived in the cell at midnight and tricked her that he would help her and his lover to be released, then forced her to have sex with him twice respectively.
Defenders of children’s rights Doreen Brenda and Dorcas Nyawate have mentioned the cases of women being abused by police officers in the Khwisero cells are beyond extremes, while demanding the relevant department to hold them accountable.
The Kakamega County Police Commander, Joseph Kigen, has said that an investigation has already been initiated on the incident, saying the suspect will be prosecuted if found guilty.
