At the time of the incident, Milemba was at a secondary school teachers’ sporting event at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay.
The union secretary general, Akelo Misori, and the KUPPET chairman arrived at Tom Mboya University in good spirits and were warmly welcomed by the teachers, who appeared to be enjoying the competition.
Four minutes later, the master of ceremonies welcomed Milemba to make his opening remarks, laying the groundwork for the eagerly anticipated final football game.
Milemba, who is also the MP for the Emuhaya Constituency, stepped up to the podium and started speaking to the instructors.
However, problems started when he proclaimed, “I am Omboko Milemba, who voted Yes for the Finance Bill.”
A group of teachers started booing him after they heard the statement. However, Milemba went on to discuss the importance of the Finance Bill 2023 to national progress.
Strong jeers throughout his explanation forced him to change the subject. The professors got rowdier the longer Milemba remained standing at the podium.
He made an unsuccessful attempt to convince the teachers with his eloquence in the Dholuo dialect of the area.
“Asewinjou maber. Koro kweuru mondo arwak Migosi Akelo Misori mondo obi uwuo kodu.” (I have clearly heard what you have said. Please maintain your composure so that I may introduce Mr. Misori to you,” Milemba asked.
But when the teachers started accusing him of betraying them by backing the Finance Bill 2023, his remarks fell on deaf ears. The instructors claimed that the Bill is making their lives intolerable.
Milemba continued to hold the microphone for another two minutes, trying to intimidate the professors with a variety of statements, but in vain.
He eventually gave the Homa Bay County KUPPET Chairman Jack Okoth the microphone so he could address the teachers before returning to his seat.
Okoth made an effort to get the teachers to stop talking so that the activities could continue. But they didn’t want to hear him out. Instead, they informed him that unless Milemba left that location, they could not continue the games.
Before Misori grabbed the microphone to call the teachers out on their disrespectful behavior, the conflict had been going on for more than 15 minutes. However, the teachers continued to act erratically and some of them were disparaging Milemba.
Milemba made the decision to get up from his seat and exit the tent, heading for his car to depart the area. The teachers tossed various items at him as he traveled. A few of the teachers had started throwing stones at him.
It compelled one of his bodyguards to fire two pistols in the direction of the teachers in order to stop them from hurling stones. Finally, he was abruptly driven from the location.
Yogo and Misori denounced the incident. The teachers’ intolerance of Milemba was inappropriate, according to Misori.
“What the teachers did was inappropriate. Everyone is upset about the Finance Bill, which will make life more difficult, but teachers are not personally affected. The teachers shouldn’t use the chairman as a target for their resentment,” according to Misori.
He suggested that, given their responsibility for influencing how children behave, teachers had painted a very bad picture of themselves.
“How are parents going to trust teachers with their children if they are acting in such a way? Nothing could possibly justify the savagery.” according to Misori.
Yogo, who organized the competition, cautioned teachers against being influenced by their emotions. Yogo advised teachers to control their emotions in order to avoid another scandalous incidence of this kind.
