Gachagua led coalition courts Gen Z for 2027

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has continued with his onslaught on President Ruto even has the Head of State insist on government’s focus to fulfill 9 August pledges.
The bare knuckle on Ruto that is presiding over ‘cesspits’  in the name of projects was at its best as Gachagua appeared for a live interview in all Mulembe Nation stations.
No buckle up from broad-based camp has succeeded as the critics venom gains more influence threatening to dethrone the’heedless contrarian’ whom Gachagua is committed to seeing it actualize.
His troops insistent that the one term presidency is a whooshing wind propelled by the anti-Ruto factions,seems their defense is hitting a snag as the ‘war within’ takes root.
In a bold political maneuver, Gachagua, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka have joined forces with other influential figures to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Elections.
Their grand coalition includes Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I, and Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa.
At the heart of this alliance lies a strategic bet on Generation Z voters—young Kenyans who have proven to be politically active, tech-savvy, and vocal about governance issues. The coalition aims to tap into this demographic’s influence, positioning itself as the vehicle for a new political era in Kenya.
By 2027, a significant number of Gen Z Kenyans—those born between 1997 and 2012—will be eligible to vote, making them a decisive force in the elections. Unlike previous generations, they have harnessed social media and technology to advocate for economic justice, transparency, and accountability. Their activism, seen in protests against corruption and economic struggles, signals a shift in political engagement.
Despite their different political backgrounds, Gachagua and Kalonzo are united by a shared goal: to unseat Ruto. Gachagua, a strong voice in the Mt. Kenya region, has been critical of the government since his ouster, insisting that the region’s political direction must be guided by structured agreements, not blind loyalty.
“I am consulting broadly to ensure that Mt. Kenya’s political direction is not swayed by blind allegiance to any coalition,” Gachagua affirmed.
“I know better. Betrayal has no space in our community. The votes are long gone, I’m urging you people from Western to heed my advice. Mr. Ruto is a real conman.”
Kalonzo, known for his diplomatic prowess and steady leadership in Eastern Kenya, strengthens the coalition with his extensive political network. Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya brings grassroots appeal and administrative experience, offering a bridge between the old guard and the younger electorate.
While the coalition presents a formidable challenge to Ruto’s re-election bid, it must first overcome internal hurdles. Uniting leaders with differing ideologies requires a clear, cohesive agenda that goes beyond personal ambitions.
Additionally, Gen Z voters remain skeptical of traditional politicians, demanding transparency and real change rather than recycled political promises.
Governance expert Javas Bigambo warns, “The success of this coalition will depend on its ability to harmonize diverse interests and present a coherent agenda that resonates with the electorate.”
“Our political is warped. We need new elements who are genuinely committed towards serving the electorate. Not the usual recycling of politicians who have nothing to offer to demanding Kenyans.”
On his part,constitutional lawyer Willis Otieno echoes the importance of engaging the youth effectively.
“This generation is more informed and connected than any before it. Leaders must adapt to their expectations of inclusivity and accountability.”
“You will be wrong to underestimate their influence. You might availed of their focused protests to cling some positions,but remember they don’t forget and they are coming for you soon.”
Otieno says that with the 2027 elections on the horizon, the coalition’s ability to maintain unity and harness the power of Gen Z could see then triumph
“If successful, it may mark the beginning of a leadership era driven by innovation, inclusivity, and accountability,”he told Kurunzi News.
“Whether this partnership will stand the test of time—or collapse under its contradictions—remains to be seen.”
