Football Kenya Federation elections presidential aspirant Sam Nyamweya has hit out at incumbent Nick Mwendwa over what he termed as abusive and disrespectufl statements aimed at those seeking to unseat the latter.
Nyamweya, who handed over the reins to Mwendwa in February 2016 has called out Mwendwa for being in violation of the ehtical conduct expected of a president of the FKF.
“The game of football is a unifying platform , that is meant to foster friendship, respect, fairness ,unity, and has no place nor space for segregation and discrimination,” he said in a statement to the media.
“The football family is one that values respect for each other , notwithstanding any other competing interests.”
Last week, Mwendwa – during media interviews, slighted Nyamweya and others who previously served at the helm of the federation for being behind decades of mismanagement of the federation, a fact that has left Nyamweya fuming.
“Nick Mwendwa has in the past few days recklessly issued statements to the media that are not only abusive and disrepectful but meant to cause chaos and anarchy amongst football stakeholders.
“Schemes by Nick Mwendwa to divide the football family in Kenya based on generation gap is not only unethical but against both FKF and FIFA Statutes which prohibit discrimation in whatever form or kind.
“Any attempts therefore to use the quest for football leadership as tool for discrimination and to hurl abuses at opponents must be rejected and never allowed to take root.”
Nyamweya says it is ridiculous for Mwendwa to suggest he was the saviour of Kenyan football yet in a short four years he had presided over the looting of resources never witnessed in the federation for decades.
“It is ironical for Nick Mwendwa to classify himself as the “saviour” of Kenyan Football while In a Span of four years the FKF regime under Nick Mwendwa has occasioned the Loss of Kshs 244 million funds meant for Afcon Championship and additional kshs 125 million meant for purchase of an OB Van.
“This is besides hundred of millions in grants and sponsorship funds that cannot be accounted for.
This are facts in the public domain and widely covered both in print and electronic media .”
Former Secretary General – Nyamweya, now wants the FKF elections, which he has repeatedly described as a sham exercise, to be held strictly in accordance with the applicable Kenyan law.
“It is the right of any football stakeholder to seek for Electoral justice through legal means and my decision to seek redress at the Sports Disputes Tribunal should not be used as basis for unwarranted attacks on my personality.
“Twice the Sports Disputes Tribunal has nullified the FKF elections based on evidence and the Law.
“The onus lies with FKF Electoral Board to abide by the previous ruling and orders of the Sports Disputes Tribunal in conducting a free, fair and credible FKF Election.”
