Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has pledged to file a petition to seek justice for Kenyans who have lost their savings due to looting by officials.
In a statement, the lawmaker has said that evidence of transactions and specific unions ,Cooperatives and SACCOS have been recorded pending an official filing before the court.
“I thank the many Kenyans who’ve bravely come forward with painful truths about looting in cooperatives,” read the statement.
“Beyond KUSCCO, we are now receiving disturbing reports of other SACCOs, unions and Cooperatives that have stolen from innocent Kenyans.”
Omatatah asserted it is not just about missing money but It’s about destroyed livelihoods, broken dreams, and stolen futures adding that justice is coming for every shilling and every Kenyan.
“I sought a full account of what happened at KUSCCO, the cooperative where thousands of Kenyans saved their money for decades. The Ministry of Cooperatives has now responded, and the findings are disturbing,”said omtatah.
“For over 10 years, senior KUSCCO officials have manipulated books, invented profits that never existed, and misused billions on collapsed real estate schemes, fraudulent lending, and personal enrichment.”
A forensic audit by Price Water Coopers confirmed that KUSCCO still owes members KSh12.4 billion; deposits that many contributors cannot withdraw. The entire system was rigged and hidden from SACCO oversight.
Following my direct intervention of Omtatah, the board was disbanded, an interim team appointed, and the key perpetrators are now facing justice in court.
“I want the affected Kenyans to know, this is personal and we are together in it. It is about livelihoods lost, school fees held up, retirement plans destroyed, hospital bills unpaid,”said.
“I will not stop until the truth is fully exposed, those responsible are held accountable, and every shilling is traced and recovered.”
The vocal legislator is advocating for rebuilding trust in the country; not with empty words, but through real action, justice and accountability.
