
A major anti-narcotics operation along Jogoo Road, Nairobi, on Monday, 21 July 2025, led to the seizure of 200 kilograms of bhang and 100 litres of chang’aa.
The sting, carried out by officers from the Nairobi Regional Operations Team, targeted known drug distribution points in a bid to disrupt the flow of illegal substances in the capital.
Police confirmed that one person of interest was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody. He is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
Crackdown on Narcotics and illicit brews
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the raid is part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate dangerous drugs and unlicensed alcoholic brews across Nairobi.
“On 21 July 2025, officers from the Nairobi Regional Operations Team conducted a targeted operation on Jogoo Road. During the raid, they arrested one suspect and seized 200kg of bhang and 100 litres of chang’aa,” read the statement in part.
The recovered items have been secured as evidence for prosecution. Police reiterated their commitment to tackling drug trafficking through proactive enforcement and community cooperation.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities to help safeguard communities from the effects of drug abuse.
Kitui drug arrest
The Nairobi bust follows another successful operation in Kitui County on Saturday, 19 July 2025, where police arrested a suspect found with 40 rolls of bhang in the Kunda Kindu area of Kitui Central.
According to a police update shared on Sunday, 20 July 2025, the arrest was made after a tip-off from members of the public.
“The suspect is in custody and will be charged in court on Monday, 21 July 2025,” police said.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to fighting the trafficking, possession, and abuse of narcotics across the country.
