From Moi to Ruto: Raila enduring political tactics

Raila Odinga, the veteran politician in Kenya, has navigated the country’s tumultuous political landscape for decades, adapting his strategies from the era of former President Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta and to the current administration under President William Ruto.
His ability to realign politically and engage in tactical maneuvers continues to shape Kenya’s political discourse as he seeks to unify a fragmented electorate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Odinga, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics since the 1990s, has consistently demonstrated a remarkable capacity for resilience and reinvention. The former Prime Minister’s latest initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with President Ruto, is seen as a significant step towards political realignment. This agreement is designed to foster cooperation between the opposing factions, aiming to stabilize the country and promote national unity. The MoU addresses critical issues facing Kenyans, including economic recovery and social justice.
“Negotiating with Ruto is a calculated risk for Raila, but it could also be a masterstroke if it leads to genuine reforms,” said political commentator Jane Anyango. “It shows he is willing to engage rather than confront, which might resonate with voters tired of political strife.”
Odinga’s political journey has been marked by his ability to mobilize support across diverse demographics, including youth and women, who are increasingly influential in Kenyan politics.
