President William Ruto has defended his administration’s desire to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum fully.
The Head of State who spoke during a joint television media interview on Wednesday said the curriculum “is good”.
Whereas acknowledging that its implementation was hurried during its initial stages, President Ruto noted “we will rectify the issue”.
“The government will look at the issues raised holistically and ensure that the CBC works,” he said.
He assured that the transition of pupils in various grades will be smooth with plans already underway to recruit 30, 000 new teachers who will be critical in attaining complete success.
“This is the largest ever single employment of teachers in Kenya,” he said.
President Ruto on September 30, 2022, formed the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms to evaluate the new curriculum.
The team presented its preliminary findings on December 1, 2022, to the President who directed that the junior secondary schools – Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 – be domiciled in the existing primary schools.
The working party has up until March 2023 to submit the final report to the President.
