A police officer was among those admitted at Kisumu’s Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital after being caught up with protestors who were throwing stones at the law enforcement authorities.
The officer, who had been struck in the eye, was seen being carried to a police car by his coworkers.
“Along with other officers, he had intervened to prevent looting at the Rubis gas station on Nairobi Road. Within the station, the demonstrators had surrounded a grocery and ransacked it as they carried products away,” he said.
“Around three people, according to human rights campaigner Boniface Akatch, were also hurt. I’ve recorded the injuries, and if this continues, I dread the worse, he said.
Akatch claimed that the cops beat individuals who were hurt with batons.
“There is a young man who had his ear torn off by a baton.”
