
Local rugby league, Kenya Cup resumes this weekend after a much-needed break, with Kenya Rugby Union scheduling six games across the country.
In Nairobi, former Kenya cup champions KCB RFC will play host to Catholic Monks in round eight of the Kenya cup fixtures.
The much-awaited fixture is set to be staged at the KCB Sports club this weekend, with the bankers buoyed by their deserving 33-18 in their last fixture to record their seventh successive win this season.
Defending champions Kabras Sugar will collide with Mwamba RFC at the Impala club grounds here in Nairobi with the Sugar men hopeful they shall be able to secure a win to keep close tabs with the league leaders.
In a rescheduled fixture over the weekend, the Kakamega-based side thrashed Homeboyz RFC 57-0 at The Kakamega grounds and should be a morale booster to the defending champions heading to the Mwamba game.
With only three games left to the playoffs, Kabras trail rivals KCB with a point having secured a bonus point during the Homeboyz fixture.
Homeboyz RFC will hope to put aside their last weekend’s drubbing by Kabras as they entertain MMUST at Jamhuri park, with Nakuru RFC playing against Kenya Harlequins at their Nakuru Athletic club backyard.
In other fixtures lined up this weekend, Strathmore Leos host Menengai Oilers at their Madaraka home ground with head coach Louis Kisia saying their recent walkover against Blad won’t affect his boys.
The last fixture of the day features a Varsity fixture that pits Kenyatta University Blak Blad and the University of Nairobi Mean Machine at the Kenyatta University grounds.
KCB, Kabras Sugar, and Menengai Oilers occupy the top three positions in the league and must ensure they win the remaining fixtures to be in a favourbale position heading to the playoffs.
In the second tier also known as the KRU Championship will also see a total of six fixtures spread across Nairobi, Diani, Kakamega, Eldoret, and Kabarak.
Former Kenya cup side, Nondescripts RFC and second-placed South Pirates will be seeking to secure home semifinal qualification.
Daystar Falcons and Kisumu RFC are also keen to cement their places in the top four, and with it, playoff qualification and a chance to qualify for the top tier.
Nondescripts currently lead the Championship league and are unbeaten in their seven outings to date.
They will be up against eighth-placed Shamas at the RFUEA Ground.
