In a breakthrough following recent unrest, police in Nanyuki have arrested two persons of interest and recovered a trove of looted property believed to have been stolen during recent protests in Laikipia County.
The operation took place on 29 July 2025, during a targeted search operation in Majengo Village, Laikipia East Sub-County. Officers from Nanyuki Police Station, under the leadership of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), launched the operation based on intelligence reports.
According to a statement from the police released on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, the two individuals were found with a wide range of items believed to have been taken from local businesses during the demonstrations.
“Among the items recovered were twenty single shoes of different sizes, believed to have been taken from a Bata shop, seven packs of hair braids suspected to be from Bestlady Cosmetics, six pairs of socks, seven bulb holders, one sealing tape branded ‘Bestlady Cosmetics Ltd’, two pieces of sewing thread and two computer power cables,” the statement read.
Also seized during the raid was a modified pressure machine and approximately 350 NSP kits, which authorities suspect were looted from LifeCare Chemist, one of several establishments vandalised during the protests. Additionally, assorted wheel spanners were recovered, pointing to a broader pattern of theft during the recent unrest.

The two persons of interest are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned once investigations are complete. All recovered items have been secured at Nanyuki Police Station as evidence.
Police emphasised that the operation is part of a broader effort to restore order and hold those responsible for looting accountable.
“The National Police Service remains committed to recovering all stolen property and apprehending all perpetrators through continued intelligence-led operations,” the statement continued.
This latest development signals a significant step forward in efforts to curb the chaos and economic disruption caused by the protests. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could lead to further arrests or the recovery of stolen property to come forward.
The swift police action, coupled with the volume and diversity of the items recovered, underscores a growing crackdown on criminal activities that exploit public unrest.
