A historic gathering aimed at advancing innovation and empowering women in science and technology is set to take place in Nairobi next week.
Women in Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA) will host the inaugural Women in STEM Africa Summit from July 8 to 10, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The summit, held under the theme “Borderless Innovation: Pioneering Global Technology Solutions for Africa’s Challenges”, seeks to unite more than 500 delegates from across Africa and beyond. Participants will include policymakers, researchers, investors, educators, and young innovators who are committed to addressing issues in health, agriculture, education, climate, and digital access.
“This summit is more than just a gathering,” Rosebella Namango said. WITIA Advisory Board Member. “It’s a statement—a collective call to dismantle barriers, empower women, and foster innovations that serve communities across Africa.”
Running concurrently with the 10th China Trade Week (CTW), Kenya and the Africa Technology Show (AFTS), the summit promises a packed three-day programme. Highlights include over 30 influential speakers, panel discussions on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, green tech, and gender equity, as well as a ministerial roundtable on inclusive STEM policy.
The event will also feature a youth-led innovation challenge, a STEM exhibition showcasing African-made technologies, and networking opportunities connecting startups with investors.
“As Co-founder and CEO of WITIA, I’ve seen firsthand the power of intentional platforms like this. We are building a movement that will not only amplify African women in tech but also transform the narrative around innovation on the continent,” Muchiri said.
WITIA hopes the summit will generate a long-lasting impact by fostering cross-border collaboration, increasing women’s participation in STEM careers, and mobilising funding for local innovations. Organisers also aim to shape policy dialogue around inclusive development.
“The organisation has extended an open invitation to the media, stakeholders, sponsors, and the general public. “Register, partner, exhibit—or simply show up and be inspired,” the release states.
